As a recipient of Undergraduate Science Education awards from HHMI, the University of Maryland implements innovative programs to improve undergraduate education in the biological sciences. 

Since 1992, the University of Maryland has received a total of $9.4 million in grant funding from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to improve undergraduate education in the biological sciences. The latest grant, for $1.2 million, supports the development of a living and learning program tied to a first-year research experience.
